The Hidden Garden

The cave you fear to enter holds the treasures you seek. ~Joseph Campbell

I remember coming across the book Flow years back. I was intrigued but I wasn’t ready to learn. I was distracted by my busyness, all elements of which felt hugely important. Later, the book reappeared. This time I paid attention. In one chapter, the author asks to interview Peter Drucker, a famed expert on management. Peter tells Dr. Csikszentmihalyi that he’s long admired his work, but that his dedication to his own creative process requires that he decline all projects that are not in pure service to his mission.

Peter Drucker was living his unique ability.

And in creating the book Flow, so was Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi.

As summer winds down have you gifted yourself space to sit and consider, what’s next for September and the rest of this year? What’s beyond the daily importances?

The sweet tiny Shakespeare Garden hides inside Portland’s sprawling showy Rose Garden. If you don’t know where it is, you’ll miss it. But if you find it, it’s the best treasure in the entire garden. A hush falls as you enter. Your walk becomes a moving meditation. Your search rewarded.

If it was easy, everyone would do it.

Because it isn’t, and because we live in a reactive world that seeks instant gratification, we get stuck in resistance. Resistance is a layer; it is not a stop sign. I wish I had read the book Flow when I first came across it. But I let my resistance and my appetites rule me back then. I still have those things–resistance and appetites. We all have them. But what we are seeking lies beyond them.

In a book I recently read, master coach Dan Sullivan said that on the very same day a long time ago he went bankrupt and got divorced. Both things happened on the same day! He sat down that very day and wrote fresh goals for himself. And every day after that for decades he rewrote those goals. He achieved all of them (including a very happy second marriage), and many more, going far beyond his wildest dreams.

Lately I’ve had vulnerable conversations with high achievers who want MORE but can’t figure out exactly what tools and practices they need to open up to the MORE, or even to divine what that more is.

MORE is in the secret garden. More is the reward for discipline, and loving on yourself enough to know that you absolutely deserve so much more. I think we also all need accountability, support and yes–coaching to get there.

Ask For More:
“I listened to that message again and again.”

“I saved your messages, and I am going to listen to them over and over.”

I hear this a lot! Because when I coach, it’s channeled guidance. If you want to experience this richness, I have space for a VIP day right now. Insightful and delightful.

If you want to learn how to channel, train with me! Next cohort starts soon. I pay referral fees. Send me your trusted friends who want to work in this wonderful multi billion dollar service industry. If they sign up, you make $500!

Shannon's Suggestions:

  • Flow I think I am going to read this once a year from now on!
  • 10x is Easier than 2x Smart and helpful but I have to be transparent with you all–this book is lame on Audible.
